bullet What are the class sizes at Holy Spirit Catholic School?

A. We have two sections of each grade from Kindergarten through 8th grade averaging approximately 23 students per grade level.

bullet Do you offer full day kindergarten?

A. Although our kindergarten sessions are either the traditional morning or afternoon, we do offer Extended Day Care (EDC) for the other half of your child’s day. This program offers a balance between social development and small group work on the kindergarten curriculum.

bullet If my child needs to arrive early or stay late, are there any programs available?

A. Yes, we offer Before School Care beginning at 7:00 a.m. under the direction of our art teacher. We offer After School Care in our cafeteria where there is a choice to work on homework under the direction of a classroom teacher or recreation time.

bullet If my child is struggling with homework, what would be the necessary steps to take?

A. We first ask that you begin with the homeroom teacher. Our policy is that homework should, on an average, not be longer than ten minutes per grade level. So if you have a fourth grade child, the average amount of homework per evening is expected to be around 40 minutes. We also have the resources of our learning center teachers who may be able to help with strategies. We also offer Homework Help that is held in a classroom under the supervision of a classroom teacher. There is a small daily charge for this service.

bullet What is the length of the school day?

A. School begins at 7:55 a.m. and ends at 3:15 p.m. Students may begin arriving by 7:30 a.m. and go to the cafeteria. The students are dismissed by the teacher supervising the cafeteria at 7:45 to go to the classrooms.

bullet Is choir or band offered at the school?

A. Yes, choir is offered to students 6th-8th grades. Band begins at the 5th grade level and is available to students in grades 5th-8th.

A. Our sports program is offered through C.Y.O. (Catholic Youth Organization) It begins at the 3rd grade level. Depending on the grade of the child, the program offers for girls: volleyball, basketball and track and for boys: football, basketball and track.

bullet Are there elective classes for students?

A. Beginning in middle school, we offer a limited choice in an elective program. Most of the classes last 4 weeks. All students in grades K-8 have the opportunity for Art, Computer, Library, Music, P.E. and Spanish.
